Respite

The Respite Service can be accessed by people receiving support from the Adur, Arun or Worthing Mental Health Teams.  It provides the opportunity for respite, to help maintain mental health and wellbeing.

At times life and it's associated stresses can become difficult to cope with.  Where a need for respite has been identified and assessed by the Care Co-ordinator, there is the opportunity for planned respite that may help prevent relapse.  Discussions take place around the most beneficial choice for each individual, who can take an active role in choosing respite that will form a positive part of their continued wellbeing.  Options can be explored on line, with your Care Co-ordinator or the Respite Co-ordinator.

A short break away in a B & B, or a hotel may be of the most benefit, or you may choose to stay at home and use your respite locally.  Some examples could be a series of days out, a maximum of six horse riding or tennis lessons.  You may feel that complementary therapies or arts sessions would be more beneficial or some help around the home or garden.  For further information click here to see the Respite leaflet.

Once a decision has been made made and the respite agreed it is then the responsibility of the individual, who will be asked to sign a disclaimer to this effect.  The Respite Service cannot be held responsible for any problems or diffculties arising from the chosen respite.

Breaks can be taken with or without a carer depending on circumstances and carers may be able to access a grant from the Carers Short Break Fund if eligible.

Depending on personal circumstances service users may be asked to contribute to their chosen respite option.
